Medical Eye Problems: Surgical & LASIK Consults
The primary care doctors at Young Vision Care can diagnose, treat and manage most eye diseases and eye injuries of patients, including pink eye (conjunctivitis), foreign body removals, abrasions, dry eye syndrome, cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration.
With certain eye conditions that are advancing, ophthalmological surgical care is needed. Since 1989, Dr. Sao “John” Liu, of the Omaha Eye and Laser Institute has been providing consultations for these conditions at Young Vision Care. Young Vision Care was one of the first optometric offices in the country to offer this type of care to their patients. Dr. Liu’s outstanding surgical cataract techniques have provided many patients with pain free, quickly healing, and improved vision soon after surgery. After surgery at their high tech eye surgical center in Omaha, post operative care conveniently begins the day after surgery at Young Vision Care.
In the last several months, newly approved multifocal intraocular lenses, which minimize the need for glasses after cataract surgery, are being used by Dr. Liu in selected patients with excellent success. Dr. John Liu is also very skilled in laser refractive procedures. He has access to various lasers in his Omaha clinic, allowing selection of the one that will best correct a patient’s vision. He was the first doctor to use IntraLASIK in the Omaha area, which provides a higher level of safety and success in LASIK procedures. Besides his excellent surgical skills, Dr. Liu is one of two fellowship trained glaucoma specialists in private practice in Nebraska. He performs laser procedures and glaucoma surgeries for patients who have advancing glaucoma in need of further treatment.
Dr. Sao “James” Liu, Dr. John’s brother, is an excellent cataract surgeon and specializes in cosmetic surgical procedures around the eyes. He is affiliated with the Omaha Eye and Laser Institute.
Dr. William Thomas, a fellowship trained retinal specialist, provides care at the Omaha Eye and Laser Institute to patients with retinal conditions. Patients with advancing macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and other retinal concerns are provided state of the art treatment for their medical conditions by Dr. Thomas. Dr. Thomas also co-manages patients with the doctors at Young Vision Care, lessening the travel to the Omaha clinic.
