Dr. Pattie Fries O.D.

Thanks for the warm welcome to Young Vision Care! My roots are in rural Wisconsin, where I grew up on a dairy farm and love all things country. Since leaving Wisconsin, I've traveled and lived all over the world with my now-retired military husband and we've made Nebraska home for the last 18 years.

I received my Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and biology from Troy State University in Alabama, summa cum laude, and graduated with honors from the University of Missouri St-Louis College of Optometry in 2002. During my last year in optometry school, I was awarded a full scholarship through the Air Force, and began my optometry career with the US Air Force at Offutt AFB, NE. In 2005, I obtained fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry and I also left the Air Force to join the UNMC Department of Ophthalmology (Truhlsen Eye Institute), where I practiced until Dec 2020. I continue to hold a volunteer faculty appointment as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology, and remain active in teaching and research oversight at UNMC. I've also served as sub-investigator and clinical coordinator for studies examining Presview Scleral Implants for presbyopia, and Avedro Corneal Cross Linking for keratoconus. I remain active in Optometry's premier academic professional society, The American Academy of Optometry, as well as the Association of Medical College Optometrists.

In addition to my optometry career, I have a dual career as a military medical officer, and continue to serve as the Commander for the 155th Medical Group in Lincoln NE, that supports the 155th Refueling Wing, flying military missions around the globe. I'm passionate about our men and women in uniform, and humbled to serve.

In my spare time, I love working on my little country home, golfing, gardening, and supporting our ever-growing family. Life is a gift, and I appreciate every day.
